Narberth Resident Accepts Alzheimer's Association Outstanding Achievement Award for Helpline Awareness

(Philadelphia, PA) February 12, 2013 – The National Alzheimer’s Association has recognized the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter with an Outstanding Achievement Award for its extraordinary efforts accomplishing greater awareness of the organization’s 24/7 Helpline.

On behalf of the Chapter, Vice President Constituent Services and Narberth resident, Claire Day accepted the award, February 8, 2013 at the Alzheimer’s Association annual Leadership Summit.

Day attributed the award to the hard work and dedication of Delaware Valley Chapter staff – especially those who are an integral part of the Helpline team.

“We can't achieve anything alone - we are leading the way,” said Day. “This award is a result of the outstanding leadership Helpline coordinator, Angela Recchiuti provides with our Helpline service, and every staff member who remembers to use the number on materials, tells our constituents about the important program, and those who provide the support and empathy on our calls every day.”

The Helpline number is also featured on other organizations’ and agencies’ brochures and resource listings, including the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.

In fiscal year 2012, the Delaware Valley Chapter’s Helpline awareness efforts resulted in a 20% increase in Helpline interactions compared to the previous fiscal year – surpassing its goal by10%.

Alzheimer’s is an incurable neurodegenerative disease that affects more than 5 million people in the United States. An estimated 400,000 Pennsylvanians currently cope with the memory loss, confusion, and changes to personality and behavior Alzheimer’s causes. At least 294,000 people in the Delaware-South Jersey-Southeastern Pennsylvania region the Delaware Valley Chapter serves have Alzheimer’s or a related disorder.
