Bala Cynwyd Restaurant Among 50 Best In Area: Philly Mag

BALA CYNWYD, PA — Philadelphia Magazine recently release its list of the 50 best restaurants in Philadelphia. But the list isn't limited to the city's boundaries, as a new Main Line restaurant made the cut.

Writers Alex Tewfik, Jason Sheehan, and Regan Fletcher Stephens drafted the list, highlighting establishments that are "paving a new path forward to the future and continuing to make Philly one of the most delicious places on the planet."

The three also included suburban spots in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Among those spots is Bala Cynwyd's Lark.

Located at the Ironworks at Pencoyd Landing, Lark opened in October 2021 and was named one of the most anticipated restaurants of 2021.

Since 2013, Nick Elmi has been working from his teeny-tiny kitchen at Laurel, his East Passyunk tasting-menu boîte. Lark, opened in October with partner Fia Berisha, is sprawling by comparison, with a scenic outdoor patio overlooking the Schuylkill River. For most chefs, the expansion might mean road bumps, but not for these two. The service is friendly and professional as ever, and every single dish—from wide pillows of gnocco fritto served with silky ricotta and paper-thin prosciutto to squid-ink chitarra dusted in garlic breadcrumbs to the oh-so-fluffy espresso budino — nails the mark.

Menu items include things such as roasted dorade, squid ink chitarra with lobster and calamari, butter roasted scallops, sea urchin deviled eggs, and much more. Non-seafood dishes range from glazed duck breast to short rib, and roasted mushroom ravioli to charred bitter greens.

In addition to an eclectic menu, Lark boasts numerous cocktails, beers, wines, and non-alcoholic beverages.
