Tony Roni’s Pizza is teaming up with the Delaware Valley’s largest hunger relief organization, Philabundance, in an effort to drive hunger out of the city with “93 Days of Summer.” The summer-long event was jumpstarted June 21st with Tony Roni’s donating $1 from every tomato pie sold in their restaurants to Philabundance in an effort to help feed those in need.
For thousands of kids around the Delaware Valley, summertime means living without free or reduced-price meals at school, and watching their parents struggle to get food on the table. During the school year, nearly 300,000 Delaware Valley children receive such meals. Tony Roni’s “93 Days of Summer” campaign is being run in conjunction with the Philabundance “Summer Meals” campaign, working to ensure that every area child is fed this summer.
With each of the seven Tony Roni’s Pizza locations across the Delaware Valley participating (including stores on City Ave and Montgomery Ave), the pizzeria hopes to sell at least 5,000 pies during the campaign. Since opening in Conshohocken in 1999, Tony “Roni” Altomare has seen his pizzeria grow, winning numerous awards in the process thanks to his signature tomato pie recipe. Local awards include Philadelphia Magazine’s Best of Philly - Tomato Pie in 2008 and Philly Hot List for Best Pizza in both 2010 and 2011.
Since its founding in 1984, Philabundance has developed countless immediate and long-term strategies to directly support hungry families in Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley area.
