Graphically
portrayed in the opening scenes of the 2003 film Cold Mountain, The
Battle of the Crater was meant to end the long Siege of Petersburg,
Virginia.  Pennsylvania miners dug a mine
shaft under Confederate lines which would be exploded, opening a hole in
Confederate defenses.  Instead the battle
was devastating for both the Union and Confederate sides. Learn about this historical battle and
discuss, with local history buff Robert Bond. Interested participants can stop
by in person to New Horizons Senior Center, 100 Conway Avenue, 2nd
floor or call 610 664-2366 by May 5.
