Robbers Detain Lower Merion Couple in Basement, Police Say

One man was injured, but three children sleeping upstairs were not disturbed.

Several armed robbers wearing masks imprisoned a Lower Merion couple in their basement early Sunday morning, injuring one of them while children slept upstairs, police said Monday.

Three or four armed men broke into a home on the 400 block of Levering Mill Road, where Merion Station meets Bala Cynwyd, about 2 a.m., police said. They detained an unidentified woman in her basement, and when her husband arrived home about 2:30, they seized him in the driveway and detained him with her, police said.

The robbers injured the man while they demanded to know about any money and jewelry in the house.
