Trauma can result in a disconnection for one's own body and emotions. This separation can cause difficulties with trust, sexual and emotional intimacy, body image, and health. It can cause us to abuse, neglect, and hide our bodies. It can lead us to feel unsafe and incomplete in our own skin. Post-Traumatic Stress symptoms can make it hard for us to relax and feel "normal." It's particularly isolating and frustrating when we can't even feel safe in a yoga class where we're supposed to be "relaxed"!
Carrie Culverhouse-Neithamer, MSS, LSW, RYT, offers trauma sensitive yoga and PTSD support group to help women with trauma feel more connected to their bodies and to one another. The yoga class consists of breath work, gentle yoga and invitational language, and NO hands on adjustments. The check-in support group portion of the class consists of a themed sharing circle on topics related to living with PTSD like shame, triggers, coping with triggers, creating an emotional support group, and more.
Women must be in mental health counseling/therapy with a trauma-focused therapist in order to sign up. Carrie is currently taking on new clients at Main Line Counseling and Wellness Center.
