WIP Sports Radio Completes Big Move to FM, Replacing Music Station WYSP
The frequency 94.1 switched from music to sports with the Labor Day weekend. The fanfare came Tuesday morning.

A couple minutes after 6 a.m. Tuesday, from a studio in Bala Cynwyd, Sports Radio WIP's morning team wished their FM listeners a good morning, concluding one of the most heralded format changes in Philadelphia-area radio's recent history.
As , WIP, after broadcasting sports talk and game commentary from 610 AM for decades, will now also broadcast from 94.1 FM. The station has revised its show schedule and roster of hosts for the occasion, too.
"We are obviously all in a giddy mood here," lead morning host Angelo Cataldi said. "This morning marks an era where we can now be heard by people who never heard us before."

The move puts WIP in direct competition with younger rival WPEN, which entered the FM field earlier with while still broadcasting from 950 AM. It also shuts down sister station WYSP, which had broadcast classic rock from a Center City studio.
Though WIP had announced the format would switch at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, the station broadcast at 94.1 throughout the Labor Day weekend. So Cataldi's team took the handoff from late-night sports talker Eytan Shander, rather than a WYSP disc jockey.
