Nothing about the Special Assistant position and how it was filled passes the smell test. The boards failure to address the many questions posed by various citizens, perhaps on advise of counsel, has reinforced the suspicion that their is a cover up, a "Baldwin-Gate" in progress.
Surely such a high level position was based upon some objective assessment of district needs. Where is that assessment? Was the position budgeted? Where is the job description? Who prepared it? Has it undergone any revision since Mr. Schmotzer resigned? Why weren't normal hiring policies, practices, and procedures followed? Why weren't normal board procedures followed? What was the rush? When will the board minutes of the now infamous meeting be made available?
The concerned citizens would like to get the entire matter resolved quickly as possible. But I fear the more the board fails to respond to our inquiries with forthrightness, the more we believe something underhanded occurred.

The Boards silence when questioned about this matter breeds speculation, it grows mistrust, and erodes our confidence in their ability to perform the duties of School Director with integrity. The remedy to all this is really quite simple, full disclosure. This, however, may not be possible until the law suit is resolved. (This posting is based on the remarks I made at the the Dec. 10 Board of Directors Meeting.)
