2 Bensalem School Board Members Defeated: Unofficial Election Results

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —Bensalem Township School Board President Eric Price and longtime Director Marc Cohen were defeated as voters elected four Democrats to five, four-year school board seats based on unofficial results from Tuesday's general election.

Meanwhile, longtime Director Heather D. Nicholas, a Republican, finished second to continue her streak as the longest-tenured board member, according to unofficial results from the Bucks County Board of Elections.

Nicholas and Cohen were recently recognized for their years of service to the school board and community.

Nicholas, who was honored for 16 years of service, was presented with a certificate adding her to the PSBA “Honor Roll of School Board Service.” The same went for Cohen, who has served on the school board for eight years.

But both fared differently at the polls Tuesday.

With 100 percent of Bucks County's 306 precincts reporting, Cohen finished sixth among 10 candidates running for school board, trailing Democratic newcomer Deborah King by 37 votes.

King received 6,489 votes to 6,452 votes for Cohen.

Democratic newcomer Karen Winters topped all candidates with 6, 733 votes. She earned a school board seat along with King and Democrats Stephanie Ferrandez (6,536 votes), and Rebecca Mirra (6,515 votes). Ferrandez is a former school board member.

Nicholas garnered 6,589 votes. But her Republican counterparts did not fare as well.

Price, the school board president, finished last with 6,263 votes. Republicans Jim Kane (6,410 votes) and Bryan Hanratty (6,339 votes) rounded out the candidates.

Voter turnout in Bucks County was 42.4 percent.
