Bensalem Opioid Dealer Headed To Prison

Police say the man used "junkies" to help him get phony prescriptions for Oxycodone and other drugs using a stolen doctor's pad.

BENSALEM, PA — A man who enlisted "junkies" to score opioids and other pills with a stolen doctor's prescription pad is on his way to prison, Bensalem police announced Thursday.

Mustafa Curry, 39, of Philadelphia, was sentenced Tuesday to 4 1/2 to 10 years in prison and 15 years of probation by Judge Wallace H. Bateman, Jr. He had pleaded guilty in August after Bensalem Police charged him with running a corrupt organization and more than a dozen other drug charges.

According to authorities, Curry ran a pill operation that passed fake prescriptions for opioids, particularly Oxycodone, and other drugs at pharmacies throughout Bucks, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.

Police say Curry got the doctor's pad from a former hospital employee who also has pleaded guilty in the case. He told them he sometimes hired people with addictions to fill the fake prescriptions for him and was pressured by a partner in the scheme to find more "junkies" to carry out the scheme.

"Addiction takes a terrible toll, not only on those suffering from it, but also on their loved ones and society at large," said Deputy District Attorney Christopher W. Rees. "This sentence recognizes the seriousness of the defendant’s crimes and his contribution to the opiate epidemic and its enormous effects on the people of Bucks County, but it also provides him with the tools to address his own addiction issues."

Curry was the fifth and final member of the drug ring to be sentenced in the case, authorities say.
