Burglaries Decrease By 67% Over 2 Years In Bensalem

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —Burglaries and robberies have decreased significantly over the past two years, the Bensalem Township Police Department reported in a review of crime statistics.

Bensalem Police said burglaries have decreased by 67 percent over the past two years, and robberies have decreased by 38 percent.

Police released crime statistics in its 2024 Year in Review, showing some positive results of their efforts to keep the community safe in 2024.

Bensalem Police, led by Public Safety Director William McVey, said it received 60,000 calls for service last year, stopped over 12,000 vehicles for various violations, and made over 3,400 criminal arrests.

Combined with its technology platforms, police said the efforts led to a 5 percent reduction in Part 1 crimes (serious and violent crimes) and a 7 percent increase in the overall closure of Part 1 crimes.

"These are positive trends we want to continue to build upon," police said.

Bensalem Secure was launched in January 2024 in partnership with the Bensalem Economic Development Corporation to combat the rise of retail theft in the region.

Although retail theft rates are still on the rise, police said the program has directly led to a closure rate of 71 percent for retail crimes.

"This is excellent progress and will eventually lead to a reduction in retail crime," police said. "Our priority as a police department is always the safety and security of our residents, businesses, and visitors. We will continue our proactive approach to policing with the overall goal of crime prevention and community engagement."
