Homeowner Rebate Checks Will Continue In Bensalem

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —The rebate check that township homeowners receive each year is going to continue despite the rising costs of government.

Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo said at the township's budget meeting earlier this month that the annual $300 rebate check — which usually arrives in early October —

"I'm extremely pleased that we are going to keep our $300 rebate to our homeowners, so we're able to continue that," the mayor said. "We're the only community that does that with the casinos, giving back."

The mayor said that Bensalem Township has given back $60 million to residents since Parx Casino opened.

Council President Edward Kisselback said that the council looked at the possibility of cutting back on the $300 homeowners' grant which "we think is presented in a beneficial way for everyone to use that to upgrade their house."

Councilman Joseph Knowles said at the Dec. 4 special budget presentation meeting that he was happy that the rebate would continue.

The mayor has consistently made a budget pledge each year for the rebate check, especially important for residents township officials said with rising inflation and other expenses for gas and groceries.

Senior citizens age 65 and older and disabled residents also receive an additional $150 provided they meet eligibility requirements.
