Lanes On U.S. 1, Street Road To Close For Road Work Next Week

BENSALEM, PA — The left lanes will be closed overnight on U.S. 1 and Street Road starting Sunday and running through next Friday.
The lane closures, from 8 p.m.-6 a.m., will be for work installing barriers alongside the roadways. It's part of a bigger project to rebuild, widen and otherwise improve a 1.3-mile section of U.S. 1 in Bensalem.

- U.S. 1 between Old Lincoln Highway and Rockhill Drive
- Route 132 (Street Road) between Kingston Way and Old Lincoln Highway.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur, PennDOT says. The work schedules are subject and could change, the agency says.
The work on U.S. 1 is the first of three phases of work to rebuild and widen U.S. 1. It will include replacing aging bridges and other safety enhancements along a four-mile section of the highway from just north of Philadelphia to just north of the Pine Street interchange in Middletown and Langhorne.

This winter, that work will including rebuilding and widening existing shoulders along U.S. 1 and Street Road, installing a temporary traffic signal at the intersection of Street Road and Township Road, extending Township Road to several businesses on U.S. 1 and rebuilding driveways into the Red Roof Inn.
Early next year, reconstruction of U.S. 1 northbound and the highway's bridges will begin. Also, construction will begin on improving the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Rt. 132 (Street Road) interchange ramps on northbound U.S. 1.
Allan A. Myers, Inc. of Worcester, is the general contractor on the $97,352,764 project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. All work on this project is expected to finished by the end of 2022.
