The Bensalem Township Police Department said that at 6:42 p.m. Sunday, police responded to the intersection of Bensalem Boulevard and Fernwood Avenue for the report of a one-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle.
Upon arrival, police discovered Benner in a drainage culvert on the southeast corner of the intersection, Sgt. Glenn Vandegrift said.
A black Harley Davidson was on its side in the roadway with significant damage to the front suspension, police said. An uninvolved witness to the one-vehicle crash remained on the scene and spoke with investigators.
A preliminary investigation showed that Benner was riding his Harley Davidson in the northbound lane of Bensalem Boulevard when he drove off of the side of the roadway and struck a utility pole.
He sustained significant head injuries and broken bones and did not appear to be wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.
Bensalem Police believe that the presence of alcohol in Benner's system may have contributed to this crash.
The final determination is pending toxicology results. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
