Route 1 Ramp Construction Starts In Bensalem

PennDOT said northbound Route 1 will be reduced to one lane overnight Thursday in Bensalem and Middletown townships.

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —Ramp construction on northbound Route 1 will begin Thursday night and last into Friday morning, bringing the highway down to a single lane, PennDOT said.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said that ramp construction is scheduled on Route 1 under a project to reconstruct, widen and improve a three-mile section of Route 1 in Bensalem and Middletown townships, Bucks County.

  • Thursday, May 11, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning, northbound Route 1 will be reduced to a single lane between the Neshaminy and Penndel/Business Route 1 exits for setting a new traffic pattern at the ramp to Penndel/Business Route 1.

The new pattern will shift off-ramp traffic onto a temporary ramp while the new permanent ramp is built.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through or near the work areas. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

PennDOT is reconstructing and widening Route 1, improving the interchanges, and constructing new bridges from the Turnpike Interchange in Bensalem Township to north of the Penndel/Business U.S. 1 in Middletown Township under the $113.5 million Section RC2 contract.
