BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —Get ready for the traffic shift.
Starting Thursday night, a traffic shift is planned for Route 1 in both directions as part of the Route 1 Traffic Improvements Project, PennDOT said.
From 8 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday, a single-lane pattern will be in place on U.S. 1 in both directions between Highland Avenue (Route 413) and Street Road (Route 132) for the traffic shift, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said.

PennDOT is reconstructing and widening U.S. 1, improving the interchanges, and constructing new bridges from the Turnpike Interchange in Bensalem Township to north of the Penndel/Business U.S. 1 in Middletown Township under the $113.5 million Section RC2 contract.
Drivers who frequently use Route 1 in Bensalem and Middletown townships may have noticed some traffic pattern changes lately.
The new southbound bridge over Neshaminy Creek is now carrying four lanes of northbound and southbound traffic.
Meanwhile, the northbound side of the old bridge over the creek was dismantled over the summer, and crews are now building abutments and a center support column for the new northbound span.
That bridge is among continuing construction projects as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation provided a fall progress report on three new bridges being replaced under the $111 million project to widen and improve Route 1 in Bensalem and Middletown townships.
