Boscov's to Stop Selling Big Appliances and TVs

The Boscov's department store chain - which has stores at Lehigh Valley Mall and Palmer Park Mall - will stop selling major appliances and TVs to make more room for furniture, according to multiple reports.

The stores will begin selling off major appliances and televisions at discounts of 30 percent or more. Large appliances including washers, dryers, refrigerators and stoves will be phased out; stores will continue to stock small appliances. 

Store Vice Chairman Jim Boscov told the Citizens Voice that there has been an increase in the company's furniture sales -- and from hearing customer feedback, he said he thinks that this is a department that needs more space in stores. Boscov's is based in Reading.

Lehigh Valley Live reports the stores will stop selling major appliances and TVs by the end of the year.

Retail analysts say this change in Boscov's selling focus is long overdue, according to a Pennlive report.
