• McCormick, Fetterman cosponsor bill to prevent Chinese-made optical transceivers from being used in sensitive national security systems (sungazette.com) — Braddock's own Sen. John Fetterman is teaming with Sen. Dave McCormick on a bipartisan bill to keep Chinese-made optical transceivers out of the nation's most sensitive security systems. The proposal would extend existing semiconductor restrictions, give suppliers five years to adapt, and encourage more of this high-tech manufacturing in Pennsylvania and other allied countries.

• Andrew Carnegie paid nearly $56.2 million to build 2,509 libraries between 1883 and 1929; less than half of the 1,681 built in the United States operate in their original buildings (parade.com) — Braddock gets a proud shout-out here as home to the first Carnegie library in the United States, just nine miles from Pittsburgh. The story traces how Andrew Carnegie's early experiences in Western Pennsylvania inspired him to fund more than 2,500 libraries worldwide, many of which still serve their communities today.
