LEARN HOW TO BIRD BY EAR at Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens

Led by Mary Ellen & Tom Heisey - Jenkins Arboretum & gardens Volunteers and Avid Local Birders

Learning bird vocalizations will open the door to a whole new outdoor experience for you whether you are a gardener, a backyard bird feeder, or an outdoor enthusiast. You will be surprised at how much you have been missing. Once you start focusing onto the bird sounds around you, you will be amazed by how much more aware you have become of your surroundings. Instead of just hearing a "bird" you will know that staccato nasal sound you are hearing is a White Breasted Nuthatch and that soft whinny sound that almost disappears into the background is an American Robin. It is a lot of fun, and once you pick up this skill you will never go outside again without knowing and appreciating the birds around you. Yet acquiring this skill can seem overwhelming in the beginning, because you do not know where to start. This program will teach you the basics, so that you will know what to listen for and how to go about learning the songs and calls of the birds in your area. From there you will be able to build your skill. We will start indoors with a PowerPoint and audio presentation, and then take a walk through the Arboretum & gardens, so you can discover what you have been missing.

Free of charge, all are welcome. No pre-registration required.
