Police Blotter: Series of Thefts from Cars in Rosemont

The following information has been supplied by the Lower Merion Police Department. If arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate guilt or a conviction.

On Monday afternoon,  reported to news media the following crimes and incidents from the Bryn Mawr-Gladwyne Patch area in the past week:

Theft from vehicle: Rosemont was targeted by a thief opening mostly unlocked cars overnight on Oct. 3 and into the early morning hours of Oct. 4, police said.

Reports of thefts and attempted thefts were reported from the following scenes:

  • The 200 block of Curwen Road: A 2009 Nissan Altima parked in its owner’s driveway was robbed of a laptop computer and a video game totaling some $1,660.
  • The 1300 block of E. County Line Avenue: While an officer was checking the area, a car door was noticed open. Contacting the owner, it was discovered that like the other thefts, the glove compartment was open and rifled through. Nothing was reported missing and there was no damage to the car.
  • The 1500 block of E. County Line Road: Four vehicles were targeted. An unknown amount of change was taken from three vehicles: a 2008 BMW, a 2010 Toyota Highlander and a 2010 Volkswagen Passat. Nothing was reported missing from an unlocked 2010 Honda Odyssey minivan.
  • The unit block of Rosemont Avenue: A Bluetooth and antenna hands-free device, along with a sweatshirt, was taken from a 2008 Honda Pilot.
  • The 300 block of Ithan Avenue (no vehicle description was given): Nothing was reported stolen from the unlocked car.
  • The 1400 block of Orchard Way: Two vehicles (descriptions not given) were targeted on the block. One discovered an iPod missing; the second was missing less than $10 in coins.
  • The 100 block of Airdale Road (in Bryn Mawr). About $2 in change was missing from a car of an unknown model.  
  • No damage was reported on any of the vehicles, police said.

Public drunkenness. David Zeghiby, 24, of the unit block of Athens Avenue in Ardmore, was arrested after getting into a taxi in Rosemont after being picked up at the train station there shortly after 1 a.m. Oct. 5,  police said. The cab driver called 911 after Zeghiby was said to have passed out. Police reported a blood-alcohol level of 0.25 percent, and paramedics were called. After being cleared by the paramedics, Zeghiby was arrested and jailed overnight, police said.

Underage drinking. A 19-year-old student was cited after passing out in his dorm room and being transported to on Oct. 7 after 2:30 a.m., police said.

Theft. A floor scrubber valued at about $7,000 was reported stolen from a loading dock at Bryn Mawr Hospital by two men in a box truck. The men were suspected of looking for scrap metal in a Dumpster, police said.
