Police Blotter: Thieves Steal Catalytic Converters, Burglars Make Attempt at Rosemont Pharmacy

The following information was supplied by the Lower Merion Township Police Department on Monday, Aug. 8.

Lower Merion Township police reported last week's crimes and incidents Monday afternoon, Aug. 8, in a weekly briefing to news media.

Theft: A catalytic converter was cut from a 2010 Toyota 4Runner in the Rosemont train station’s north side parking lot, sometime between 7:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 2, police said.

Sometime during the same day at the Rosemont train station, another catalytic converter was “sawed off” from another unidentified vehicle, police said. The victim reported the damage and replacement of the equipment cost $1,700.

(Police also reported a catalytic converter taken from a 2011 Toyota Tacoma at the Wynnewood train station the following day, Aug. 3. Police suspect thieves are using a battery-operated reciprocating Sawzall to quickly remove the converters, which are easily accessed on SUVs).

Attempted burglary: At 12:32 a.m. Aug. 6, a burglary of the at 1149 E. Lancaster Ave. in Bryn Mawr was interrupted by a security alarm, police said. Responding to the call, police observed broken glass and fresh damage to the pharmacy’s Montrose Avenue entrance.

Theft: A black leather purse containing $99 in cash, a digital camera, credit cards and various forms of identification was reported stolen from the Erin Pub in Bryn Mawr on Aug. 6, police said. The purse was left on the bar unattended for about 15 minutes, according to the police report.

Theft: An unlocked, green women’s bicycle was stolen sometime between July 23 and Aug. 5 from the front porch of a home on the 700 block of Old Railroad Avenue in Bryn Mawr, police said. The bike is valued at $300.
