Norwood-Fontbonne Academy Opens 92nd year as students return

“Welcome to our 92nd year as an excellent school where we are always striving to be more!”, proclaimed Sr. Mary Helen Beirne, Norwood-Fontbonne Academy’s Head of School, in her opening address to students on September 5. Her message encourages students to choose new ways to excel academically, to grow in caring relationships with each other and the earth, and to make reflective choices as self-directed persons.

Just as the summer break concluded, enthusiastic staff members stood ready to welcome hundreds of crisply clad students to their classrooms.  Looking sharp in their new uniforms, NFA students will be introduced to a few new programs at the Chestnut Hill campus. The recently transformed Science classroom will be the setting for increased hands on, interactive learning for fourth through sixth graders. The Sister James Anthony Hall Gym will begin its renovations very soon with an anticipated opening by the school’s Annual Invitational Snowball Tournament in January, 2013. In addition to facility enhancements, NFA students will now be using their e-readers in literature circles and sharing 40 new iPads added to advance current technology instruction. Parents will be excited to use the newly launched Parent Portal to access their child’s grades, receive weekly classroom and school updates as well as to navigate the school’s new web site.
