may not have the numbers that defending Inter-Academic League champion Haverford School has, or traditional power Malvern Prep. But the Blue Devils did win a share of the league title two years ago, and seem headed in the direction of another league title again this season.
The Blue Devils are 4-2 overall and began their league season at 1-0 with a 7-3 victory over Haverford School last Saturday. Running back Cedric Madden, who’s rushed for 350 yards in a game and almost 1,000 yards in five games, carried 25 times for 80 yards against the Fords. Junior receiver Bobby Keyes had five catches for 60 yards against the Fords, senior lineman Tyler Hightower had four solo second-half tackles, and junior Cole Hoffmann had a big reception that kept the game-winning drive alive and made the play of the game with an interception on Haverford School’s last drive.
“I’m very pleased with the way our kids are playing,” Blue Devils coach Rich Knox said. “For us, in terms of confidence, this victory goes through the roof. We lost to George Washington [26-7] and they beat Washington. We can’t let it go to our heads too much. We showed a tremendous amount of resiliency and toughness against Haverford. It’s something that I saw in spurts this year. We haven’t shown that for a full game. We showed it at times, but not an entire game, like we did against Haverford.”
