Barbie Leaves Ken!

Collectible Barbie is striking out on her own!

Twenty years ago, a  friend who worked for Mattel gave me a collectible "Silkstone" Barbie gift set. It had special meaning because it was Fashion Model Barbie and I had worked in the fashion industry and, also, because it was the "Continental Holiday Gift Set" and I was an avid traveler.

Barbie came with a tiny Passport, a fur-trimmed, brocade coat, sunglasses, a designer handbag, high heels, a stunning blue and cream dresses and, for lighter moments, a pair of itsy bitsy gold lame slacks. What was intriguing to me was what she wore underneath - a lacy corset with garters and white mesh stockings. How risque!  I never took Barbie out of her box for two reasons. One, she would lose her value (and virginity). And, two, I was over 30 and was well past the stage where you call a friend over to play Barbies.

Barbie, in all her perfection, has lived under my bed in her box all these years, doing what she does best. Increasing in value. I would keep her for another 20 years, but for reasons that are just between Ken, Barbie and the lady who does the billing at my periodontist, I am putting her up for sale. As you can see from the photo, she's a knockout!
