Candlelight Concert - Rejoice in the Lamb, by Benjamin Britten

The choirs of the First United Methodist Church of Germantown,
under the direction of Music Director Kevin O'Malia, will present
Benjamin Britten's unique cantata "Rejoice in the Lamb" on Sunday,
December 15th at 4PM.  The concert, in tribute the 100th anniversary of
Britten's birth, will also feature his settings of "A Boy Was Born" and
"A Hymn to the Virgin."  There will also be tribute paid to Sir John
Tavener, with performance of his stirring setting of the Blake poem "The
Lamb" in light of the composer's recent passing.

The program will be preceded by an organ and carillon recital,
featuring organist and FUMCOG Director of Music Kevin O'Malia, and
FUMCOG's resident carillonneur Janet Tebbel.  The choirs will be
accompanied by accomplished organist Michael Smith.  Mr. Smith is
Chair of Performing Arts at The Shipley
School in Bryn Mawr and Organist and Choirmaster at the Church of the
Good Shepherd (Episcopal) in Rosemont. He is a native of Alabama and
holds masters degrees in organ and conducting from Yale University.
Congregational carols and readings from scripture and poetry will round
out the program.

A freewill offering will be
taken to benefit the music program at FUMCOG.  FUMCOG, a Reconciling
Congregation, is located at 6001 Germantown Ave., Philadelphia, PA
19144.  For more information about this concert, or about the music
ministry at FUMCOG, go to www.fumcog.org, or call the church office at (215) 438-3677.
