Chestnut Hill Teacher Arrested On Child Porn Charges

A Springside Chestnut Hill Academy teacher will be detained pending his trial on multiple child exploitation charges.

PHILADELPHIA — A Springside Chestnut Hill Academy teacher will be detained pending his trial on multiple child exploitation charges, the acting United States attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania has ordered.

Andrew Wolf, 41, of Philadelphia was arrested Oct. 7 on charges including receiving child pornography and distribution of child pornography, according to Jennifer Arbittier Williams' office.

According to Williams, Wolf offered a teenage boy a $100 PlayStation card in exchange for sexually explicit videos.

Court documents show the filesharing service Dropbox filed a report in July, alerting law enforcement to suspected child pornography in an account linked to Wolf's school email address. An FBI investigator found several files on the account that appeared to be child pornography, according to the criminal complaint.

Also on the account were screen recordings of private Instagram conversations between a user believed to be Wolf and a boy under the age of 18, the investigating agent reported.

The FBI was able to pinpoint Wolf's residence in Philadelphia based on data from the recordings, according to the criminal complaint.

If convicted, Wolf faces a maximum of 40 years in prison, according to Williams' office. He is not listed on the school's staff directory as of Tuesday evening.

“As alleged in the Criminal Complaint, the defendant communicated with a child for the purpose of sexually exploiting the child’s naiveté – an abhorrent crime made even worse because of the defendant’s position as a teacher,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Williams. “The convenience and accessibility of digital communications, coupled with the ease with which child sexual exploitation crimes can be concealed online, make these cases extremely difficult to investigate and prosecute. However, our Office and our law enforcement partners are committed to doing this difficult work in order to hold child sexual predators accountable, especially people like this defendant who have selected careers working with children.”
