On Sunday, December 18, Saint Paul’s will open
its doors for its annual candlelight service of lessons and carols beginning at 5:00 p.m. The tradition of Nine Lessons and Carols was instituted by Archbishop Edward Benson at Truro Cathedral in England and is based on a medieval vigil liturgy. The service, which combines
scriptures, hymns, and anthems, has become well-known throughout the world as many parishes, chapels, and cathedrals sing their own service of Lessons and
Carols each year. Saint Paul’s Choirs will be joined by brass and timpani.
The repertoire will include:
Sussex Carol arranged by Phillip Ledger
