Kile Smith's Vespers

In Concert at The Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill - Directions
The work that brought Kile Smith into our lives and hearts returns in a joyful collaboration with Piffaro, The Renaissance Band. Gramophone calls it “a spectacular work” and The Philadelphia Inquirer says this “scrupulously relevant” work is a “creative breakthrough” of “confident simplicity.” We agree, and happily bring this rich, fascinating, and moving work back into our artistic lives, reprising the enormously successful 2008 premiere. Setting a Lutheran Reformation liturgy, the work slowly reveals a profound investigation into our personal, internal, and very modern relationship with God. With Kile’s intimate relationship to these time-honored texts and his command of both modern lyricism and the invigorating rhythms of ancient music, Vespers promises to be a classic Crossing event.
