Mt Airy Church Burglarized Sunday: Philadelphia Police

Burglars targeted two Mt. Airy churches on Sunday, according to Philadelphia Police. Only one was entered and had items stolen from it.

MT. AIRY, PHILADELPHIA – Two Mt. Airy-area churches were targeted by burglars this weekend and Philadelphia Police are searching for the suspects.

According to police, sometime between noon and 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 1, two men tried to get inside the Great Commission Church located at 2043 Eastburn Ave.

The men were unable to get in the church, but then moved to the Mt. Airy Baptist Church located at 2012 69th Ave.

The men forced open a side door then broke into several vending machines taking the change boxes, police said.

They also took two safes and several brass plates and cups used for church services, according to police.

Police said the men fled the area in an unknown vehicle in an unknown direction.

One suspect is described as a white or Latino man in his late teens to early 20. He has a thin build, goatee, tattoo in script on left forearm. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark T-shirt with a Michael Jordan logo on back, dark pants, and white/black sneakers.

The other suspect is described as black male in his late teens to early 20 with a thin build and medium complexion. He was wearing dark hooded sweatshirt, dark sweatpants, and black/copper sneakers.
