SAT MAY 2 - 2015 SUMMER ONE-ACT BONANZA Auditions at Old Academy Players

Auditions for OLD ACADEMY PLAYERS’ 2015 SUMMER ONE-ACT BONANZA will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 2nd at the Old Academy Players, 3544 Indian Queen Lane, Philadelphia (East Falls), PA. Performance dates are July 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19 – Fri & Sat at 8:00 pm and Sun matinées at 2:00 pm. Auditions will be cold readings from the scripts. We are seeking actors of all ages and may cast actors in multiple roles.

A PERFECT MATCH

Joel and Abby are searching for their perfect match and a computer dating site says they are compatible. But exactly how truthful have they been?

Joel: (Mid 20’s-40) Kind of handsome, fairly confident, a young Joe Everyman.
Abby: (Mid 20’s-30’s) The “girl next door.”
Waitress: Very busy.

MURDER BY MIDNIGHT
By Jeff Goode. Directed by Kristen Hammond.
Hotel detective Dick Piston has less than ten minutes to solve a brutal murder for a nude widow, or risk losing her case to the day shift. Can he crack the case before his shift is up? A comedy.

Dick Piston, hotel detective: (20-mid 30’s, respectively) Partially inept but very lucky detective. (Think Inspector Clouseau from the Pink Panther.)
Woman: (20’s) Seductive, manipulative, but not the brightest bulb. A tad bit crazy.
Bellhop: A classic villian. Also a tad bit crazy.

SCRIPTED

Jenny has written her own happy ending…but what happens when life refuses to imitate art?

Jenny: (20’s-30’s) awkward, dreamy, intense but well-meaning
Kevin: (20’s-30’s) a “nice guy” but not without flaws
Linda: (40’s-50’s) a mediocre theater director with minor delusions of grandeur

SENIOR COFFEE

A young waitress has a fight on her hands when she tries to serve free coffee to a senior citizen.

Senior citizen: 55 years and older, male
Bethany: 19, pretty
Restaurant manager: male or female, any age
Young man: non-descript

SUN DRIED

A young aspiring, struggling writer from the mid-west dries her hair on a New York City rooftop and finds unexpected inspiration.

Mary Louise: (25-30) A young girl with big dreams

Man: (30-40) Mary Louise’s dapper neighbor

THE CHOCOLATE AFFAIR
By Stephanie Walker. Directed by Loretta Lucy Miller.
A woman steals her daughter’s Halloween candy and hides out in a motel room to enjoy her forbidden love.

Beverly: (30-early 40’s) Desperate and delusional; her body image is tied to the chubby little girl who was ridiculed as a child. She is thin now and feels deprivation and loneliness.
Mr. Goodbar: (20-50) Seductive, peacemaker and a real charmer.
M&M: (20-50 Female) Sensible, demanding - the voice of truth and reason.

THE NEW WORLD AINT CHEAP
By David Vazdauskas. Directed by Clinton Cleaver.
Christopher Columbus and his conniving young wife try to wrangle ships and sailors out of King Ferdinand, who would rather fight wars over the Old World.

Christopher Columbus: (18-50) The more eager-than-bright explorer
Beatrice: (18-50) His wife, ballsy and 9-months pregnant
Queen Isabella: (20-90) Also very sharp, focused on midwives and the New World gold
King Ferdinand: (20-90) A blusterer fixated on his new cannons
Enrico: (Male or Female 15-90) The King’s useless scribe with a crippled right hand
