Sherry Wilson Butler brought down the house at the September UUCR Jazz Vespers

Sherry Wilson Butler, a resident of Mt. Airy, at the UUCR Jazz Vesper series -- held the third Sunday of each month on Stenton Avenue

Sherry Wilson Butler, a resident of the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia and internationally acclaimed jazz treasure, performed with an ensemble that included Barry Sames on piano, Randy Sutin on vibes, Jimmy Coleman on drums and Nimrod Speaks on bass Sunday afternoon at the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Restoration located on Stenton Avenue in East Mt. Airy.

Sherry sang spirituals and standards including Afro-Blue, Love Supreme and the Happy Song. Ms. Butler has performed and recorded throughout the United States, Europe, the Caribbean Islands with Teddy Pendergrass, Billy Paul, and Patti LaBelle among others.

Jazz Vespers are held at 4:30 pm on the third Sunday of each month. The next Jazz Vespers, held on Sunday October 19th at 4:30, will feature vocalist and guitarist Jim Cohen and the “Daves of Wine & Roses.” There is a ten dollar donation requested and a reception afterward with refreshments.
