Tattoo Parlor Coming to Mt. Airy

Mt. Airy is about to get a new Tattoo Parlor.

The Philadelphia Zoning Board of Appeals approved an application for a use variance that would allow a tattoo parlor to open up at 7102 Germantown Avenue at its meeting on Wednesday.

The application, which was approved in a 4-to-1 vote, was supported by letters of consent from the WMAN zoning board, City Council member Cindy Bass and the nearby Mt. Airy Presbyterian Church.

The shop, which will be operated by Eric Flynn, is planning to operate seven days a week, from 12 to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Flynn said that the Sunday hours were made so as not to interfere with church services.

The shop is expected to employ two people full time, with room for a rotating third tattoo artist as need be. The shop could serve roughly 15 people a day, Flynn said.

Though zoning approval is contingent upon the shop getting the appropriate paperwork and approval from the city's health inspector, Flynn, who operates Kadillac Tattoo Deuce in the Northeast, says the shop could be open in the next few months.

"We're looking to open our doors no later than the end of January," he said.
