Teresa the Etiquette Lady – Ranting Like A Lady
Twerking – As my friend says “not for nothing," is twerking even a real word? What I do know is that it is a dance (air quotes) performed by Miley Cyrus on a popular awards show that is not appropriate for young girls or old girls. I don’t understand the relevance of it outside of the strip club!
Selfies – Taking pictures of yourself constantly every where including the bathroom! Really, there is no self control, when it comes to selfies! It is addictive! Look at me, look at me, look at me!

Tattoos – Ok, tattoos have been around forever, but the new rage is sleeves, which are tattoos all over the arm, like a sleeve. It’s not going to keep you warm in the winter!
Reality TV Shows - Every and anyone who is willing to put their lives in front of the camera. Basically, amateur actresses and actors getting their camera time. I cannot believe that people have so much drama going on everyday!

Well, I could go on and on, but, I am really afraid of how long this list can become! I am not a prude, but I am genuinely concerned that our youth is going to suffer. Because, these types of behaviors are what they see as cool and must haves. The question, I often ask my students is why do you think you should participate in or look up to these behaviors? The answer is always the same. “Because, that’s what’s in or that’s what everybody does now." Both girls and boys are mimicking the entertainers. Part of what they don’t realize is that the entertainers are lot of smoke and mirrors. So as I try to not be judgmental –Lol. I realize that I must go above and beyond to give the parents a helping hand. I receive calls from Mothers asking me, can I help them with their daughters. My response is always the same. Yes, I will help teach her things that will build her confidence and self esteem through etiquette training. Then I let them know, I am not a psychologist or a disciplinarian. Well, not by trade –Lol.
Parents, etiquette applies to everything we do in our daily lives. It is important to start manners and etiquette training early. It makes a difference in how children mature, they understand the importance of making good decisions. It enhances their leadership ability and they are less likely to succumb to the pressures of societal trends. Good social skills allow children to succeed in all areas of their lives as they grow.
