Waldron Mercy Academy Students Meet K-9 Officer
Lower Merion Police Officers visited Waldron Mercy Academy with their K-9 partner to talk about police work and the importance of safety.

Waldron Mercy Academy grade 3 had quite the exciting visitor! On Friday, February 5, Sgt. String of the Lower Merion Police Department along with a fellow officer of the Canine Unit visited Waldron Mercy’s third grade classrooms, with their K-9 officer, Ido, who has been trained as a bomb sniffing dog.
After reading a story entitled “Aero and Officer Mike,” about the partnership between police officers and their K-9 partners, the students were intrigued. When the LMPD officers arrived, they were greeted with cards and questions. They discussed the importance of safety, shared stories about their careers as police officers that had the students on the edge of their seats, and had Ido perform a few tricks, much to the delight of the students!
Khalif Wardlaw, a Waldron Mercy third grader, was truly enamored with the officers and Ido. He said, “I liked when the dog came to our class a lot. It gave me a chance to ask questions. I learned about what the dog can do. It was really exciting because the dogs did tricks. We tested to see if he could find stuff with his nose and he did.”
