Cranberry Approves Drilling Under Golf Course

Township approves oil and gas rights under local golf course.

Cranberry Township supervisors approved a deal leasing gas and oil rights underneath the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course on Thursday.

An offer was made by the Moon-based company, Penn Energy Resources, with final approval by the township supervisor pending. The offer is a five-year deal, including a payment of $933,000 and 17 percent royalties, according to TribLIve.com. The deal breaks down to $3,000 per acre, for 311 acres.

Cranberry Township previously said it would not allow drilling on the golf course, but would allow drilling underground, Trib Live said. Penn Energy Resources said it could also drill horizontally from neighboring townships, the news website said.
