Cranberry To Host World War II-Era Photo Exhibit

The photos provide a fascinating glimpse into how Butler County residents and businesses contributed to the war effort.

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA - A photo exhibit focused on World War II-era Butler County and the contributions residents and businesses made to the war effort will be on display in the township municipal center beginning next week. The exhibit will run from Sept. 22 through Oct. 5.

The exhibit “WW2-Butler County Recycles” concentrates on a scrap metal collection drive spearheaded by Armco Steel. Significant amounts of metal were needed during the war to make items such as tanks, battleships and infantry helmets.

The Associated Artists of Butler County retrieved, printed and mounted more than 100 photos of that effort. The exhibit is being financed in part by the Cranberry Township Community Chest.
