Cranberry Rated Nation's 7th-Best Community

A new study says that based on housing and schools, there aren't many better places to live.

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA - What a difference a few months makes. The township was ranked the 63rd best suburb in Pennsylvania in an April study, while a new report rates Cranberry among the best places to live in the entire nation.

HomeUnion, an Irvine, California-based online real estate investment management firm, ranked the country’s seventh-best community in which to live based on housing affordability and school quality. The rankings were based on home sale data compiled by HomeUnion and school date from the National Center For Education Statistics.

Cranberry was rated so highly based on its median home price of $274,000 and its center for education statistics schools rating of 83.9 percent.

Most of the communities in the HomeUnion rankings are in the midwest and central part of the countries. Steve Hovland, HomeUnion’s director of research said that’s because those locations offer the best combination of affordable homes and good schools for first-time homebuyers.

“As home prices continue to increase in many coastal markets, particularly in the western U.S., we are seeing the best opportunities for first-time home buyers with families in the center of the country,” he said in a statement. "These areas are also good places for single-family rental buyers to invest in housing."
