Girls of Steel High School Robotics Team Looking for New Members
The group is open to any high school girl in the Pittsburgh area who is interested in joining the team for the 2011-12 season.
The Girls of Steel, a team of young women that will compete in the annual FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition, willΒ conduct an information session for any high schoolΒ girl in the Pittsburgh area who is interested in joining the team for the 2011-12 season.
The open house, which also welcomes family members, friends and potential sponsors, will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, in Room 2109 of the Gates and Hillman centersΒ on the Carnegie Mellon University campus in Oakland. The Field Robotics Center, part of Carnegie Mellonβs Robotics Institute, sponsors Girls of Steel.
Last season was the first for the all-girls team, which included student . The Girls of Steel won All-Star Rookie awards at regional competitions in Pittsburgh and Washington, DC, and competed at the international FIRST Championship in St. Louis.

Those attending the open house will find out what itβs like to be a team member and the many benefits of participating. There will be robot demonstrations and exhibits.Β
