Dormont Hires Solicitor, Interim Manager
In a special meeting Tuesday, Dormont Council filled two vacant borough positions.

During a special meeting Tuesday, filled two borough positions that have been vacant for longer than a month.
. Delta Development was hired as interim borough manager, subject to the solicitor’s review of an employment contract with the group.
McCartney explained that the borough sent proposals to law firms in the South Hills Area Council of Governments (SHACOG).

After reviewing and ranking the three firms that responded, McCartney said, council chose Dodaro, Matta & Cambest because the firm’s attorneys had municipal law experience in the areas beneficial to Dormont. Attorney John Rushford will be the main contact for the borough.
“It seemed like a good cultural fit,” McCarntey said. “We liked what they had to say about how they worked … and we decided to offer them a contract. We actually wanted a firm that had multiple abilities. The folks we chose, for example, have not only extensive municipal experience, they have zoning, they have labor, they have real estate. All those issues are front and center to us now.”

Delta Development was hired in a similar manner, he said. Council also wanted a firm comprised of multiple people with various abilities to serve as interim borough manager. Delta Development, as a consulting firm, could do that, he said.
“We had a couple of unsolicited proposals from two companies. Both of them had multiple people,” McCartney said. “We interviewed each of those … and then we ranked them and did the same kind of thing.”
Council also officially accepted the resignation of former borough solicitor .
Council members John Maggio, Eugene Barilla and Laurie Malka did not attend Tuesday’s meeting.
The next Dormont Council meeting is March 26 at 7 p.m. The location has not been announced.
