8 Things To Do On Mother's Day Weekend In Bucks County

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — In between the brunches for mom, this weekend brings lots of events and activities to the Bucks County countryside from the official unfurling of the giant Progress Flag in New Hope to a book swap in Yardley, Victorian Lifestyle Tours in Doylestown and Mimosas With Mom in Lahaska.

There's also a free sheep shearing event at Washington Crossing State Park, a free classical music concert in New Hope, a Touch A Truck event for kids in Doylestown Township and a local bookshop celebrating its 25th year.

Progress Flag Unfurling in New Hope

New Hope Celebrates will kick off its 20th anniversary of PrideFest with the unfurling of a giant 12x15 foot Progress Flag over the Starbucks building in downtown New Hope and the placement of 150 3×5 Progress Flags on the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge on Saturday, May 13 beginning at 11:30 a.m. The unfurling is the kick-off to this year's month-long LGBTQ+ Pride celebration that draws more than 15,000 people annually. Return To the Gilded Age With Victorian Lifestyle Tours

Did you ever wondered what it might have been like to live in Bucks County during the Gilded Age? The Village Improvement Association in Doylestown will be holding a series of Victorian
Lifestyles Tours during the month of May at its headquarters, the James-Lorah Memorial Home. Attendees will have the opportunity to plan a dinner party, play a hand of Whist and hear popular music of the era as they tour the Victorian mansion. They will also hear about childbirth and medical practices of the time, see Victorian dolls and a handmade doll house and discover the fad gripping Doylestown and the nation. Public tours are scheduled for Saturday, May 13 beginning at 1 p.m. and Friday, May 19 beginning at 5:30 p.m. Groups of 10 people or more may also reserve private tours for Wednesday, May 17 by calling 215-348-2187 or emailing JLMHtours@via-doylestown.org. Have A Mimosa With Mom at Chaddsford Winery

Chaddsford Winery is honoring mom and mimosa lovers with bubbly pours and seasonal specials. The winery will be offering an intimate 60-minute experience in its Lahaska Wine Studio providing access to some of its latest wine releases on May 13 and 14 and again on May 20, 21 and 27 at its Peddler's Village location at 5860 Lower York Road, Lahaska 18938. The cost is $35 per person. Reservations are required by calling 215-574-9655.

Public Sheep Shearing At Washington Crossing Park

The public is invited to explore life on a colonial-era farmstead at Washington Crossing Historic Park’s “Wheat & Sheep Day” on Saturday, May 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the park’s Thompson-Neely House & Farmstead. During the event, attendees will see sheep being shorn of their winter wool coats and then follow the process of washing and carding the wool and spinning it into yarn. Children will receive a take-home activity kit filled with colonial crafts. Tours will also be given of the restored Thompson-Neeley Grist Mill. Shearings will be held on the hour starting at 10 a.m. and mill tours on the half hour from 11:30 to 2:30. Attendance is limited to 150 people and registration is required for this pay-what-you-wish event (recommended fee is $7). Register at: WashingtonCrossingPark.org/events. Yardley Book Swap: Stocking Up For Summer

The Yardley Historical Association will hold a spring book swap on Saturday, May 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Old Library by Lake Afton at 46 West Afton Avenue, Yardley 19067. Bring your books and puzzles and trade them for a new-to-you supply. Please do not bring more than one grocery bag of books of current interest to adults and/or children. This is a “swap,” not a “drop.” The Yardley Historical Association is dedicated to the maintenance of the Old Library by Lake Afton and its collections of books, documents, and ephemera related to Yardley’s history. Bucks County Bookshop Celebrates Anniversary

The Doylestown Bookshop at 16 South Main Street, Doylestown, will celebrate its 25th anniversary on Saturday, May 13 with a toast to the store's continued success. Owner Glenda Childs is inviting the community to come out to share stories and mingle with booksellers, past and present, between 1 and 3 p.m. Local musician Bruce Malcolm also will be on hand to provide music as the shop celebrates and reminisces about the past 25 years and looks to the future.

Touch A Truck At Central Park In Doylestown

The Doylestown Township Parks and Recreation Department presents a free "Touch A Truck" event for youngsters on Saturday, May 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the Amphitheater at Central Park, 425 Wells Road, Doylestown 18901. Youngsters will have the opportunity to explore all kinds of trucks, including tractors, bulldozers, snowplows, police cars, fire engines and a whole lot more. They'll be able to sit behind the wheel, honk the horn and pretend they are responding to a call. Kono Pizza, Humpty's Dumplings and Candy Cloud Kitchen will be on hand offering food and treats.

Noelle and Sebastian Grand to Perform Free Concert

Cellist Noelle Casella Grand and pianist Sebastian Grand will perform a free concert at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 10 Chapel Road, New Hope, beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 13. The husband-and-wife duo are internationally acclaimed musicians and local favorites who draw large crowds to their performances. The May 13 concert will be their sixth appearance at St. Philip’s in as many years. The couple direct the Grand School of Music in Buckingham Township. The concert is part of the Music at St. Philip’s 2023 series. The concerts are open to the public, and admission is free.
