Almshouse Road At Rt. 263 To Close Monday

The road closure is associated with a $31.6 million PennDOT project to reconstruct and improve four miles of Route 263.

Almshouse Road will be closed and detoured at Route 263 for a month starting Monday, PennDOT announced this week.

The road closure is associated with a $31.6 million project to reconstruct and improve four miles of Route 263 (York Road) between Bristol Road and Sugar Bottom Road in Warwick and Warminster townships.

During construction, eastbound through traffic will be detoured over Jacksonville Road, Bristol Road and Route 263.

Westbound Almshouse Road traffic will be able to reach Route 263 to travel north or south during construction. Westbound travelers will not be able to cross the intersection. To return to Almshouse Road, drivers will need to follow Route 263, Bristol Road and Jacksonville Road.

Eastbound Almshouse Road is expected to reopen in mid-July, PennDOT said. At that time, the contractor will rebuild westbound Almshouse Road at Route 263 and the westbound approach will be closed until early September.

Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone, PennDOT said.

“PennDOT is rebuilding Route 263 to provide a smoother and safer roadway for motorists for decades to come,” PennDOT said in a statement.

The improvements include full depth pavement, reconstruction of the existing four-lane concrete road and intersection improvements.
