Bear Killed On Route 611 Bypass In Doylestown: Social Media Reports

According to unconfirmed social media reports, the bear was seen lying on the side of the northbound highway.

DOYLESTOWN, PA — A bear that has been roaming around Doylestown for the past two weeks was apparently struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday afternoon on the Route 611 Bypass.

According to unconfirmed social media reports, the bear was seen lying on the side of the highway on northbound Route 611 near the State Street exit yesterday around 4 p.m.

Numerous people posted that they had seen the bear on the side of the road. Several posters reported that they had seen a police car parked next to the animal.

“Oh my gosh - the bear was hit by a car on 611! I came by just after it was hit. So sad!!!” wrote one poster.

Another wrote, “I just drove by it a few minutes ago. It just broke my heart. It’s lying on the side of the road with a cop car in front of it. It’s so sad.”

"Omg no. Poor thing was just trying to find a new place to call home. So sad," another wrote.

Many expressed sadness over the accident and blamed people for driving too fast along the highway.

"Probably a car going 85 mph," wrote one.

"Or a person going the speed limit and the bear darted in front," wrote another.

"Nah. 611 Bypass Speedway."

A Pennsylvania game warden told Patch that he believed the bear was between one and one-and-a -half years old and about 150 to 2oo pounds.
