HARRISBURG, PA —State Rep. Tim Brennan (D-29) took the oath of office at the State Capitol on Tuesday officially beginning his first term in office.

The Doylestown Borough resident and former second ward councilman was sworn in to represent the newly-redistricted 29th Legislative District.

The noon swearing-in ceremony marked the beginning of the 2023-24 session of the Pennsylvania House. It also marked the election of State Rep. Mark Rozzi, a Democrat from Berks County, as Speaker of the House.

“I am looking forward to working for all the people of this district and to solving problems, here at home and in Harrisburg," said Brennan. "I believe government has a role in improving people’s lives. I’ve spent 20 years working for our community as a borough council member, in the Governor’s Office of General Counsel, as an attorney, as a municipal solicitor and as a Hearing Panel Member for the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania,” he said. “I’m humbled to take the oath of office today and to represent the people of Bucks County in our state legislature."

Brennan won election in November by defeating Republican Diane Smith and Independent Rob Ronky to represent Doylestown, Buckingham and Solebury townships and New Hope, Doylestown, Chalfont and New Britain boroughs in the state legislature.

Brennan resigned from borough council in December after serving seven years as a representative of the borough's second ward.

Topping his list of legislative priorities will be improving local infrastructure, supporting the work of first responders, strengthening democracy, protecting a woman’s right to choose and preserving the environment.

Brennan is one of nearly 50 newly-elected House members, and he is a part of the largest and most diverse class of freshmen legislators in more than a decade.

With the new class of lawmakers, the Democratic Caucus now includes 35 women and 34 people of color.
