CB Cares To Distribute 'Community of Concern' Booklets
Parents of 8th graders will receive the booklets, which examine the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, at back to school night.

CB Cares Educational Foundation has announced it will distribute “Community of Concern” booklets to the parents and guardians of 8th grade students in the Central Bucks School District. Distribution will occur this month during Back to School nights at the district’s five middle schools.
“The Central Bucks Community of Concern was created as a partnership between CB Cares Educational Foundation and the Central Bucks School District school nurses, in an effort to keep the youth of the District free of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs,” CB Cares said in an annoucement
The 32-page booklet was written by and for parents and was reviewed by experts. It examines the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use from a scientific, legal and social viewpoint.

The first Community of Concern, established in 1997 at Georgetown Preparatory School in Bethesda, MD., created a booklet, “A Parent’s Guide for the Prevention of Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drug Use.”
“The overwhelming positive response to the booklet, which was first published in 1999, led to the establishment of the Community of Concern not-for-profit consortium. The Consortium continues to publish the booklet, revised most recently in 2014. There currently are more than 1.9 million booklets in circulation in 36 states and 4 countries. The booklet and the Community of Concern consortium have received much recognition and many awards over the years, Most recently, they were awarded the Senator Harold Hughes Memorial Award for “outstanding leadership in translating research into practice” from National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism,” CB Cares said in its announcement.
