Central Bucks West HS Harlequin Club Presents Chicago

The show runs from Thursday, November 14th through Saturday, November 16th

At first glance Chicago appears to be a musical that is all about glitz, glamour and crime and one might question why a high school edition would even exist. Central Bucks West Director Jessica Bostock explains that Chicago is actually a satire that criticizes how show business and the media glamourize crime and that it actually makes for a thought-provoking choice for high school students.

In selecting shows for her high school students Bostock is always looking for growth opportunities. Bostock explained that she likes Chicago not only because it makes a strong statement about society, but it is also a dance show featuring the choreography of the well-known Bob Fosse. Chicago is the first show at Central Bucks West in which Bostock auditioned for a specialized dance ensemble.

Chicago is set in the 1920s and is based on the true story of several high-profile cases in which female murderers were acquitted of their crimes. The show tells the story of accused fictional murderers Velma Kelly, played by junior Sierra Safran, and Roxie Hart, played by sophomore Emma Mitchell, through a series of vaudeville acts opening with the perennial favorite All That Jazz.
