Central Bucks West Thespians Nominated For National Jimmy Awards

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Two Central Bucks School District thespians have been nominated by the Philadelphia Independence Awards for the national Jimmy Awards to be held on Monday in New York City.

Central Bucks West students Anna Shea Safran and Jackson Manning will represent the Philadelphia region at the National High School Musical Awards as Best Lead Actress and Best Lead Actor for their performance in "Anything Goes" at Central Bucks High School West.

In the show, Manning played Billy Crocker, a young charismatic and charming businessman who is in love with Hope. Shea Safran played the role of Reno Sweeney, a charismatic nightclub singer and former evangelist who is clever, funny, persuasive, and extremely confident.

The Philadelphia Independence Awards also recognized Manning as Best Solo Dance in the region and the Anything Goes Dance Ensemble as the Best Dance Ensemble.

Central Bucks West was among 21 schools from around the Philadelphia region whose productions were adjudicated by adult artists and educators.

The Philadelphia Independence Awards were created by high school theater teachers and directors for the purpose of sharing and awarding outstanding student theater performances and productions in the Philadelphia region.

The National High School Musical Theatre Awards, better known as the Jimmy Awards, is a coast-to-coast celebration of outstanding student achievement, recognizing individual artistry in vocal, dance, and acting performance.

Named for Broadway impresario James M. Nederlander, the program has been the catalyst for more than $2,000,000 in educational scholarships.

The 2023 Jimmy Awards features 96 nominees from 48 regional awards programs making their debut on a Broadway stage.

During this unforgettable talent showcase, a panel of judges will select two students to receive the coveted awards of Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress. The event will be streamed live in its entirety on YouTube and Facebook on Monday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m.
