The Comedy of Chris Durang at Central Bucks High School West
Join the CB West HS Harlequin Club for an evening of laughs On Saturday, May 14th at 8pm
The Central Bucks West Harlequin Club is excited to welcome audiences to The Comedy of Chris Durang May 14th, 2022. Two short plays by Bucks County’s Tony award-winning playwright, Christopher Durang, will be performed: “For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls” which is a parody based off of The Glass Menagerie, and “The Actor’s Nightmare” which is inspired by the common fear that the actor will forget everything while on stage.
“For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls” focuses on a mother who is trying to set up her hyper-sensitive, middle-aged son with his brothers’ workmate. She ends up being hard of hearing and what should have been a simple dinner has turned into chaos. The play is set in the mother’s house for the entirety of the production. Durang uses exaggeration and chaos to make this play wildly funny and entertaining.
“The Actor’s Nightmare” revolves around an accountant named George who was mistaken for an actor’s understudy in a play for which he knows little to nothing about. There is much confusion and improvisation that George must do making this play hilarious. Through the different characters and creative jokes, Durang was able to put a comical spin on the greatest fear of many actors.

This is the Harlequin Club’s first time producing three shows in one year. The director, Jessica Bostock, thought performing these plays would be so much fun for the students and a different experience from the two musicals White Christmas and Amelie performed earlier this year. Other than Bostock’s directing of the show, the entire production is student run. The cast and crew are eager for audiences to see their one performance of The Comedy of Chris Durang.
The Comedy of Chris Durang is playing at Central Bucks West High School, 375 West Court Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 and has one performance on Saturday, May 14th. Curtain time is 8:00pm. The tickets can be bought at the door. Cash or check only. Adults $10. Students $5.
