CERT is a nationally recognized program that trains volunteers in basic emergency preparedness, disaster response, first aid, communication, and community support skills.
During a major emergency, professional first responders may be overwhelmed or delayed by the scope of the incident. According to the borough, CERT members help bridge the gap by providing assistance, sharing information, supporting neighbors, and helping the community remain safe and informed until full emergency services can be mobilized.

In addition to supporting the community during emergencies, the Doylestown Borough CERT will play an important role in public education and preparedness. Team members will help promote emergency readiness by participating in community programs, distributing preparedness information, assisting with training events, and helping residents develop plans for responding to severe weather, utility disruptions, public health emergencies, and other unexpected events.
