DOYLESTOWN, Pa. — Doylestown’s own Ben Lapidus, who won over the judges this past
spring on America’s Got Talent, is coming back for more on tonight’s episode of the popular talent contest.

And who knows what he’ll come up with for tonight’s episode, but whatever it is it’s sure to be something memorable.

Tonight, 11 performers take the stage at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium as judging is turned over to the American viewing audience to vote for their favorite performers. The show airs at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 9 on NBC10.

During the auditions this past spring, Lapidus, a singer/songwriter from Doylestown, wowed the audience with a humorous song about Parmesan cheese, yep, that's right, Parmesan cheese and never getting enough of it at a restaurant.

The "Parmesan Cheese Song" was cheesy, to say the least, but it was also very catchy - one of those stick in your head songs.

But the judges - Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel - couldn’t let it go as Lapidus belted out the lyrics, "I always want more Parmesan, but I'm embarrassed."

As the judges began to buzz in with their disapproval, Lapidus sang with more authority. "I will not remain silent. I will not give in," he sang. "I will die before I let big parma win. I always want more Parmesan, but I'm embarrassed."

That was it. The fourth judge buzzed in as Simon Cowell covered his face with his hands and shook his head.

But Lapidus had an ace in the hole. He had won the audience, which roared its approval for the young man from Bucks County as they sang along with his silly lyrics.

The judges had little choice but to reverse themselves, except for Mandel, giving him three votes and enough to move forward in the competition.

Tonight he’ll need everyone in Doylestown, Bucks County and beyond to give him the win by registering their vote through the AGT app, which they’ll need to download.

Prior to the competition, Lapidus was asked, “Why America’s Got Talent?”

“Because it’s the biggest stage in the world and this is what I want to go with my life,” he said.

“When I was a kid I had a ukulele that I found in the garage and I would sit and just play melodies that I heard. Music was my lifeline,” said the Central Bucks graduate.

Lapidus, who works full-time as a sound designer for narrative podcasts, has been writing songs since he was 14. "This is just something I always do and never stop."
