Driver In Fatal Rt. 611 Crash Headed To Trial

The man who was allegedly driving drunk when he crashed in a fatal wreck on Rt. 611 during the holiday waived his formal arraignment.

The man who was allegedly driving drunk when he crashed in a fatal wreck on Rt. 611 during the holiday season has pleaded not guilty.

Corey Adam Mitchell, 26, has been charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI in the death of his friend and passenger, Erik Detweiler, 25. Mitchell has waived his formal arraignment and is headed to trial, court records show.

The crash happened early on Dec. 27 at the intersection of County Line Road and Easton Road on the border between Bucks and Montgomery counties.

Mitchell was allegedly driving northbound on Easton Road when he entered the left turn lane to turn left onto County Line Road, investigators said. His headlights were turned off.

Even though the light was red, Mitchell tried to turn onto County Line, cutting in front of an incoming tractor-trailer which was unable to stop in time, according to the Montgomery County DA.

Mitchell’s blood alcohol concentration was .154%, the DA said. There was also marijuana in his system, authorities said.

Detweiler, who had been living in California, was home visiting his family in Quakertown.

He was described by his family as an adventurer who loved to ski.
